Symposium POUTOKOMANAWA: CONNECTING HEAVEN AND EARTH – Bi-Cultural and Theological Relationships in Architecture
This Symposium is a one-day event which explores the relationships architecture has with art, theology, the traditional Maori world and modern bi-cultural settings.
The day is geared towards architects, designers and artists to celebrate, experience and learn about the relationship between architecture, theology, and Maori culture from a range of perspectives, including those of the clients.
University of Otago Professor of Theology Murray Rae will discuss aspects of his forthcoming book Architecture and Theology: The Art of Place.
Carver, Ihaia Puketapu, Tuhoe/Te Ati Awa, will present on the unique bi-cultural poutokomanwa Arohanui ki nga Rangatahi in the heart of a pakeha organisation’s space.
Brendan Himona, Tuhoe/Ngati Kahungunu of JASMAX will speak about the design considerations in the Tuhoe Tu Uru Taumatua and plans for a Papa Kainga on Matiu Island in Wellington with Te Ati Awa.
